What is the best software to record games? The only one that I know of is fraps, and it sucks. It drops fps significantly, giving a video of very low quality. Are there any better options? Even if it costs money, I'm sure I can "FIND SOMEBODY TO LEND IT TO ME". I hope that was obvious

You could try Windows Media Encoder. It's free from Windows. However, I seem to recall that fraps is really the least resource intensive program you can get. Recording shit from your computer in real time is a pretty heft thing to do

Well kk, ill try not to go into to deep o' detail here, but basically, in theory, fraps IS the best recording software, and its never caused my games to lag. Usually if it does uncheck "Force Loseless RGB Capture (May be slower)" and your wont lag as much at the expense that your gbs will be eaten up faster.

The next is hypercam which is absolute shit in my opinion but you may try it. Mostly i never even got it to a stable state so maybe its a me problem.

Lastly, theres camtasia, which you can easily get with a torrent, and its a lot like fraps EXCEPT for that theres no chance in hell you will get NEAR the graphics quality even giving it all the resources you can afford.

There is a program called Avid Studios ive heard about and its what "TheMediaCows" guys from youtube use-theyre a pretty big youtube name if you know them.

And thats about it for screen capture software-at least that I can think of.

Yeah, I've used Camtasia, and it's really no good for game recording. It's a lot better for recording tutorials of how to use software or something less intensive.

Let me educate you. Camstudio. Download it. Use it. It is not a resource hog, open source, a great many-featured program. Not many know about it. But know you all do. You may thank me now.

Yea, but see heres the thing, by simply downloading a better codec, fraps will now record my games in HD-assuming my graphics settings on the game are in HD. So for me, since I do have 500 free gbs of space, wasting 100 of them on 3 hours of recording, then compressing and deleting, is a step im willing to take.

compressing takes, oh, 15 minutes if you have a 10 minute video at 30 fps or so.

However, I agree with xaotikn in that its not a resource hog and its fast and easy to install and learn how to use.

Also, for whatever reason, whenever I use camstudio my mic is not muted, yet its so quiet that unless my game is muted you cant hear it clearly-which can be good or bad depending upon the person. Serial would die without hearing my smexy voice. Others, like panda, would die if I didnt shut up now and then.

I have 850 free gbs of space atm lol. So that wouldn't be an issue for moi. The only reason I don't like fraps is because it drops the frame rate so low that I don't have as much control and it makes the video look unprofessional, to me. For example, if I'm down to 25-30 fps and I'm trying to demonstrate something that takes exact timing, which is something I plan on doing and you will all see about it soon enough, it is very difficult for me to accomplish this.

And about the mic being very quiet on camstudio, you could always just record it like normal, with your low mic, and then just dub over it. Or you could just not talk and then dub over it anyway lol

yea but then you dont get real-time emotion. Further, on cs 1.6 especailly, fraps knows its place and never even bothers thinking abou lagging for me. He has been broken in and trained well.

Exodus have you tried a lower resolution

I think his problem was caused because he was playing at a resolution that was higher than fraps was capable of recording. He lowered his resolution and it was fine (if I remember correctly)

You should try out Bandicam for game recording. Does exactly what Fraps does but it doesn't make your game lag as bad and it does the compressing for you (this helps with the file size.)
