If you are making a sandwich, do you put "lunch meat" or "cold cuts" on it?

In my area: "Lunch Meat" is used for meat that is packaged and bought for sandwiches. "Cold Cuts" are when that same meat is displayed on a platter with cheese and crackers. I also say "Deli Meat" often as well.

I voted for Lunch Meat though.

For me, cold cuts is salami, pepperoni, etc, when they're laid out on a platter with cheese and crackers. Nobody would ever call ham or roast beef a cold cut.

I would have to agree with jero. its sandwhich meat unless on a platter, but unlike anubis I have heard roast beef and ham called cold cuts....but only when on platters.

Cold Cuts just sounds cooler. Lunch meats sounds weird.

Cold cuts to me = pepperoni, salami, capicola, etc. Lunch meats = Turkey, ham, bologna.

Lunch meats are deli meats. Cold cuts are gross meats that subway puts on their cheap subs. Gross.

As the son of parents who own a sub-sandwich restaurant, let me just state what I stated above; cold cuts are meats like pepperoni, salami, capicola, sausage, etc. and lunch meats are basically what we Americans call deli meats (turkey, ham, bologna, thinly sliced beef, etc.)

OK Mr. Expert. Classify Turkey Sausage for me.

A mixture of meats? Sounds like bologna to me, which in turn, is basically lunch meat.

When I go to my local deli people call turkey, bologna and ham cold cuts, not lunch meat.
