Post subject: | What's your motivation? |
What is your guys motivation? I realized today that as much as we all know about each other, I'm not sure any of us know anybody's end goal or motivation to keep getting up and doing what they do. I think it's important as a family to be able to help each other when possible. I'm going to write my answer in a spoiler. I encourage you to write yours in a spoiler before you read mine or anybody elses. SpoilerShow My motivation: My mom. She raised me right. She's always and will always be there for me as long as she lives. I want to give back to her. But not just with smiles and hugs. Those things are always there for her. I want to be able to financially support her so she can do what ever she wants to with the rest of her life. People. I am motivated to help people in need. I was bullied in high school and think it's ridiculous that nobody stood up for me when I didn't have the courage to lift my head up. This spurred a desire to help other people in that situation which spiraled into wanting to help people in any way possible. My current goal is to become a registered nurse and spend some time in 3rd world countries helping people. If the company will pay for me to live, I don't need monetary compensation for my time. The experience is compensation enough. I just really want to help people in need, and give back to a world that's been so kind to me. I get up every day because I know that I can do something significant for people. I walk around smiling and saying hi to strangers because even if I can't do anything significant right now, that could be significant to somebody. You hear stories of people who tell themselves, "All I need is one person to smile or say hello and I won't end my life." I strive to be that person who doesn't realize that I'm saving lives by brightening somebody's day. |

This is a really hard question. I don't really know what motivates me, but I'll give it a go SpoilerShow My motivation is the obligation to questioning everything. I like to read a lot and to learn about a lot of things so that I can question what I see around me from different points of view. I like to talk to people to see if I can get them to question what they think they know. If I could be a full-time thinker, that would be my job. |

Oh yeah, here's another, that a lot of people don't even consider because of the values of our society: SpoilerShow I do things I enjoy, and avoid things I don't enjoy. My motivation is often the enjoyment I get from a various activity. |

I agree! SpoilerShow That's exactly why I won't work a job that I don't enjoy any more. I'd rather do nothing than do something not enjoyable. |

SpoilerShow I get motivation out of learning and improving at things. I also really enjoy making people happy, through jokes, food, or just companionship. I am also motivated by appreciation. When someone appreciates what I did, it makes me want to do lots more. |

SpoilerShow My motivation is to provide for the next generation. I do what I do so I can give my future children and wife a better life than I've had (even though I've lived a great life). I always strive for continual improvement and progression. |

SpoilerShow My motivation is doing what I like to do. One of those things is helping my community and the people that are in it. This is the sole reason why I want to become a firefighter and a police officer. There is nothing better than helping someone you don't know and seeing them with a smile after you gave them a hand. I also like to make people laugh by telling jokes and making them feel better in times when they are not at their best. I have always been this way and this is the only way I will be. Yea, I am a different person online when it comes to jokes and shit but in the real world, I am the opposite. Online I can crack jokes that sometimes makes the other person feel like shit and then I would realize it and apologize. In the real world, if I see someone not having a good day, I try to talk to them and cheer them up. If I am just joking around with friends, I like to bust their chops just to make them laugh. It is something we all do in the fire service. Not only am I motivated by helping my community, I am also motivated by my family. Growing up I had no family except my parents and brother. Everyone else were scumbags that only cared for themselves. Now that I am getting older, I want to change that. I want to grow my family into a caring and loving group of people. I don't care about any of my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I want to rebuild my family from what I have now, My father, step mother, brother, step brother, sister, and my step grandmother who doesn't speak English so talking to her is like playing charades. I want to help my father out because he is the reason why I'm still moving on with my life after my mother passed away. He has supported me through thick and thin and I want to return the favor. Later on in life, I want to give my kids and wife everything that I didn't have while growing up. I never had a vacation where I went somewhere nice. There was no way because my father worked his ass off. This is why starting early to get my foot in the door with police and fire will benefit me in the end. The last thing that motivates me is you guys. Everyone in the clan and the community that the clan has formed. You people are the reasons why we all come back everyday and hang out in mumble and in game. Without you guys, I don't know what I would be doing on the computer. Yea, there are other clans and people out there to play with, but this is the ONLY clan that I found that actually cares and loves one another. You guys rock! |

@Mutiny: SpoilerShow Damn dude, that was a very well thought out/written post. I can appreciate wanting to help people. I am the same way. Never give up and remember why you do the things you do. It will help push you through the tough times. "Everything is good in the end, if it isn't good, it isn't the end." |

SpoilerShow I'm so amused by this entire thread because it's like it's a secret society or something with all the spoilers. I haven't read any because I don't know what my motivation is in life. |

@Cemy: SpoilerShow It doesn't need to be your motivation in life. Just like, why do you make the choices you do? Is there a goal your aiming for or working towards? I spoke about wanting to help people. YOU CANT ENTER THE SECRET SOCIETY UNTIL YOU ANSWER! |

Very easy for me: SpoilerShow My kids, are my motivation. Ever since they came to be, everything I do, is for them. I try to be there when they need me, and I do what I can for their happiness, but I do let them know, it's OK to cry sometimes, for different reasons. I also have family quality time with them, to give them as much memories as possible, so they can remember, and cherish those moments later down the road. So I do as much as I can with them, during those family quality times, like going camping, movie night, game night, and so on. My kids keep me going, when I'm down, and I see them play together, smile, laugh, and so on... . |

SpoilerShow My motivation in life is to experience life to the fullest extent possible, which includes traveling most of the world. I want to live comfortably, which to me means making good money and being debt free. I want to play hard and laugh hard. I want to enrich the lives of others around me who I am close to in some way. Now that I have a son, my biggest motivation is to raise him with good morales and character and to provide him with even more growing up than I had. |

A quick update to my motivations:
My girlfriend. I know I've only been dating her for a month but she motivates me to be a better person. If I fail, I'm not just letting myself down, I'm letting her down (even though she doesn't think this way). It pushes me to try harder and strive for me. The better I do, the more I can give her.
|
