To be honest, I think the reddit admin was back pedaling. I don't think it's against the rules at all, but he was embarrassed and didn't want to seem like he was at fault, so he made up a bullshit rule.

I hate it when people are given positions of power and feel the need to abuse it. Shadowbanning for purposes other than stopping spam is ridiculous. And in this case, there was no fucking reason for any action to be taken.
