So this is a subject that has been argued over for years now. If you talk to people that don't watch UFC they will say that Fedor Emelianenko is the best fighter in the world. I personally am not even that impressed with him. He has had a few good fights and certainly has a good chin, but he refuses to fight the best guy that he can fight. He likes to pick fighters that he knows he can beat easily, and everyone drools over his record. Well, he finally fought a good fighter and what happened...triangle choke in the first round. At one time a lot of people were saying B.J. Penn was the best fighter in the world, but after two losses to Frankie Edgar I think that is no longer part of the discussion. Now if you are a UFC fan then you most likely only consider two fighters as your pound for pound best fighter, and that would be Anderson Silva and George St. Pierre. Now the discussion will begin here.

I personally think George is the best fighter in the world. There are a lot of fans, trainers, and even other fighters that think St. Pierre would beat Silva at anytime. In fact Kenny Florian and Rashad Evans both said on ESPN's MMA section that St. Pierre would beat him RIGHT NOW. His wrestling is better than anyone in MMA. Just imagine if he got to train with a REALLY good wrestling coach. His striking in his last fight ranks with just about anyone in MMA as well. He improves SOOOOO much after every fight its actually scary. You think "wow, this is the best I have seen him" and then the next fight he has turned that tiny little fault in his game into some kind of signature move. He will forever be known as the fighter that proved proper boxing in your stand up game can make all the difference in the world. You can be the best brawler in the world, but its hard to hit someone when you are eating a fist every time you try to step forward.

Now, Anderson Silva is the most impressive fighter I have ever watched. When he is healthy and REALLY tries, he almost seems to be in another level as far as fighting. Like he can enter the matrix and just go all Neo are your ass. He usually doesn't even defend strikes because he can just dodge punches. His level of confidence is second to none. He always KNOWS he will completely dismantle anyone that gets in front of him. He actually did have a rib injury that would have been EXTREMELY painful in his fight with Sonnen. He did get dominated but it would have been hard to stop take downs especially by someone of his caliber at wrestling. I am not making excuses cause I wish he would have lost, but its just the facts. His muay thai plum is one of the scariest places to be in all of mma short of maybe being on the bottom with Lesnar on top.

So what does everyone else think? Please share your opinions about these fighters or maybe another fighter you think is the best and why. Maybe you are a Jose Aldo Fan....

Who was that guy who danced around the entire fight and evaded almost every single punch thrown at him? I thought that guy was extremely impressive.

That was Dominick Cruz. He hasn't had the title defenses to be declared that good yet. Plus he hasn't had his first UFC fight yet.

Shoot, none of that matters to me. He was pretty dang impressive. More impressive than Fedor, and he also has never faught in the UFC or had that many fights that anybody would consider terribly competetive.

oh I agree it was one of the more impressive fights I have ever watched. I think he will do really well in the UFC and should have a good title defense streak. However, until you have cleaned house of your weight division it just doesn't make sense to consider you one of the best in the world. I would say he is the best at his actual weight class, but I don't know how he would stand against guys even one weight class above him. Who knows though, he might be WAY too fast for them.

I am all about saying GSP is the best of the MMA fighters(not just because he is Canadian). His mental determination and skill makes him the best and he is willing to take on anyone they give him and he is a gentleman and lets his fighting do the talking
