That's strange, I never had to actively chmod it.

I go to reddit a lot for help with stuff like this. You could try their FreeBSD subreddit for answers. People there tend to be pretty friendly and helpful.

Well by looking at some official manuals it's seems that in previous releases kern.hz was already set to high, and had many CPU usage issues therefore they pull back to 100 (which is normal) else people manually were setting at 100hz (and CPU usage decreased from 15 to 3%). Aww man.

Perhaps there were some more thing like you said you hadn't to chmod that linmount file.

Yeah could be. I did this about a year ago and have since moved on to CentOS, so I'm not too familiar with more recent upgrades.

I am experienced at FreeBSD and have set up Half-life Game servers in the past (5+ years ago).
A lot has changed!

When running the command:

./steam -command update -game czero -dir .

I get:

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 45 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Unable to download package file
CAsyncIOManager: 0 threads terminating.  0 reads, 0 writes, 0 deferrals.

I am wondering if their server is just down while I am trying this or if there are changes to the install procedure since this post. I have searched the internet extensively and this is the most recent tutorial I have found regarding this.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT NOTE:
It works today. Their server must have been down yesterday. My wall has a head shaped hole in it for nothing!

Unable to download package files leads me to think either the server is down or maybe the permissions aren't correct for downloading. If you're experienced with FreeBSD, I'm guessing you have everything configured correctly and the servers are just down.

On the other hand, hlds doesn't officially support FreeBSD. There have been times when an update has temporarily caused an "interruption of services" with people trying to run on FreeBSD. If the problem persists, it might be better just to switch to a different OS.

That CAsyncIOManager is completely normal.
