I'm thinking about buying a mechanical keyboard, but don't really know anything about them.

What sorts of features or characteristics should I be looking for? What are some features to stay away from? Is it all just how it physically feels in my hands or am I safe to buy online? Any reasonably priced recommendations?

I purchased the Steelseries 6Gv2 for its cherry black keys and durability(It can handle gamer rage). I didn't want to order one online from Das or Ducky. Corsair doesn't use all mechanical keys, Razers apparently break easily. Rosewill's mech keyboards have amazing reviews and a variety of switches.

I was looking at Rosewill. They all got really good reviews except for one problem that almost everybody had. The USB plugs would always come loose. Plus, based on that article, I think I will want a PS/2 mouse anyway.

That article was very informative. Thanks for posting it. (Though much of it is taken word-for-word from the steelseries website :P)

PS/2 keyboards are the way to go, The steelseries has the option for both. USB mice + Overclocking the polling rate would be as good as a PS/2 mouse. I have tried different polling rates 125, 500, 1000hz and I couldn't notice a difference personally.

Is there anywhere in your general location that sells gaming peripherals like keyboards, and have them on display? Its definitely a matter of taste. I know some people that can;t stand any of them and have went back to normal membrane keyboards.

Not with any reasonable selection. BestBuy only has one mechanical keyboard, and it isn't that one. Aside from that, I have never seen a mechanical keyboard for sale anywhere.
