Post subject: | iTunes DRM removal help? |
I've downloaded videos and TV shows on iTunes and would like to know whether I would be able to play these on another iTunes account (it was purchased on a shared family account and I would like to have my own iTunes account)? If not, how can I could convert all of these videos (I have a fair amount - so it won't be easy), so that they can be played on different iTunes accounts (there's a lot of computers in the house so I'm going to run into the 5 computer limit, anyway)? I've tried to convert them using TuneBite, SoundTaxi, and Daniusoft Media Converter. All of them fail/crash when I try to convert iTunes protected video (but they work fine with audio). They say they .m4v playback is not supported or some such nonsense, even though my computer is able to play back these files because it is authorized. Could anybody help me with this? Thanks. |

iTunes is a stubborn program to use. Unfortunately, you cannot play a show on a different account than the one you purchased it on. Converting videos is an entirely different matter. I remember back in 2011 that basically any converter could back-end iTunes and convert it. Recently (Last 3 years or so) Apple has updated the video codec on iTunes making it disable copying, converting and playing on unauthorized computers/devices. Only certain shows and movies are unprotected (almost none). The only way to play protected videos on a computer is by authorizing it on iTunes/Quicktime and then playing the video in a authorized video player. So unfortunately there is no solution to this. Personally, I haven't had to deal with using iTunes and Apple software after my mother finally ditched her 2010 Macbook Air in early 2013. There could be a recent solution, I'm just not aware of it. This is not am appropriate place to discuss DRM circumvention, which is illegal. |

Yeah, we will not discuss anything that will get our forums in trouble. |

Alright, I unlocked it so Redman can reply. Redman, you are free to answer this question: Quote: I've downloaded videos and TV shows on iTunes and would like to know whether I would be able to play these on another iTunes account (it was purchased on a shared family account and I would like to have my own iTunes account)?

It's not illegal if you want songs to be transferred(maybe videos and shows, I'm not sure). I've done it with two of my computers. I'm not an expert but you have to share libraries. You can select what library you can use that is usually on the top left. Here is a link for macs but it should probably help you out somewhat http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 |

Unless things have changed recently, I have always been able to play songs from my iTunes that come from other sources (like if my wife downloaded them from iTunes...our accounts are not linked....and we never shared libraries). You just have to manually transfer the files over from the correct directories rather than trying to use the iTunes SW to somehow transfer/sync them. I have no idea, however, if this translates to video files though. |

I actually did this today with my laptop for school. You have to authorize your computer |
