For the past 3 days I've been getting around 60-70 ping in cs on east coast servers. When ever i do a latency test i come out around 10. As some who typically gets 10 ping on average this is quite annoying to me. So i am looking for anyones ideas to solve this(I'm looking at you jero) Ive also tried my laptop which isn't connected to ethernet and same result |

Run a traceroute to the server and post the results here. |

if you aren't sure how to do that just let us know, there are commands you can do, not sure on mac but I am sure there is something, and there are also programs that will do it for you in case you aren't able to use commands. |

What am I looking at? Some rows have 1 number in ms, some have 2, some have 3? |

the first three lines should be you connecting to your ISP, the 4th line jumps so a data center then from there starts along the path to your destination. to me it looks like its the server you are connecting too, seeing as the other jumps were normal from what you said in the original post. not the server exactly, more along the lines of the data center used to connect to said server. then again my knowledge is very limited on the subject, im sure jeroh could give a better answer. |

yeah jero said earlier that he was connecting to new york and then going to penn. so he was jumping around before going to the actual destination, which is stupid. Sometimes internet companies like verizon or att will do weird fucking routing around the country for no reason. |

If it's a routing issue like Jero suggested, there's nothing you can do to fix it. You'll just have to wait for the next hurricane to fix it like Northern did. You could also switch ISPs. That's why I and serial have Comcast internet even though it's more expensive - because ATT internet doubles my ping to our servers. |

Maybe getting a VPN will help? Its been a while since I looked at that sort of thing. |

if you can find a vpn that is close it might work, usually vpns will make it worse to my knowledge (which is sorta limited). |

Idk. If the server has a weird backbone than a VPN may help. My friend with crap internet gets better ping on the servers than me. |

My ping was fixed 2 weeks ago but its still weird how it was only with valve servers |
