This uses Group Policies which is not enabled in the Home version. Professional users can proceed to the steps.

Home users can enable group policies, follow steps on this page:

Change Setting to Notify:

Search/Run gpedit.msc

Select Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

Right Click Configure Automatic Updates > Edit/Properties

Select Enabled and Option 2 "Notify for download and notify for install" > Apply > OK

--REBOOT--




Disable Windows Update

Note: you will have to re-enable these to update manually.

Search/Run services.msc

Double Click Windows Update

Select Startup Type> Disabled > Apply > OK

Double Click Background Intelligence Transfer Service

Select Startup Type> Disabled > Apply > OK
