Today, a piece of computer hardware has gone to Heaven. My Corsair H50 low-cost liquid cooler has lost its life to a good fight. However, I'm relieved to know that my CPU was not damaged in the process and am in extreme relief that my automated shut-down sequence I enabled in the BIOS kicked in when my CPU hit 75 degrees Celcius. Took me a few guesses but I finally pinpointed it to the CPU cooler and luckily, I had my Cooler Master Hyper 212 as backup. So, I lost an $80 cooler but I saved a $200+ CPU. I can honestly say that I didn't lose much in the process.

that's cool you did the fail safe like that. When I upgrade my computer next time I will go ahead and do that kind of stuff too.

From what I understand, Intel CPUs have the fail safe built into the CPU so that way it underclocks itself to keep from overheating. The BIOS command that I enabled was just for added security (and I'm very thankful that the option was there.) I'm not sure with AMD CPUs but I wouldn't be surprised if AMD did have their CPUs equipped with the same fail-safe. On a better note, my air cooler is performing just as well (if not better or worse) as the liquid cooler.
