well after some thought, i think it is time for me to start building my own rig, i told myself i would start after high school but i never did, so Im a year late anyways...i talked to myself and convinced myself i would just buy stuff one at a time...so I wont be done for a looooong time especially since its summer and I will have a lot of useless expenses lol but i would like your help in deciding parts and such id like to keep it at around $500, but since I am buying over a long amount of time i can probably go a bit over. it will mostly be a gaming rig but I will also use it for other media purposes this is also with peripherals and OS aside, ill get those when i have the goods so start shooting and suggesting |

I dont mean to be mean or disrespecful, but theres not many (what most people consider ) "gaming" rigs out there for under $500. What you CAN do is buy a basic everything, but with an good vid card and CPU. Otherwise, keep everything else basic -- but i would also get a good cooler ! With that in mind, with 500, you can still get a computer that runs cz like a bitch, and a source game just fine ! However, I would still wait until Azn posts as he is still the guru after all ! |

You don't know how glad I am that you finally decided to make your own rig. For $500, I'm sure I can come up with something in that price range. If you are also needing a monitor and other peripherals then $500 is way too low. Rig only is easy to come up with. |

nah i got the peripherals down i just want the rig everything else i can easily get good for cheap but im not gonna do or get anything without the PC guru's input [Edit] and it doest have to be exactly five bills thats just to an idea since ima be ordering parts and keeping them till i get everything i will probably make exceptions |

you can always look for stuff with rebates. just make sure you DO your rebates instead of losing the paperwork in a move like I did. |

you don't have to spend a massive amount of money to make a so-called "gaming rig." A gaming rig doesn't necessarily need the latest and greatest pieces of hardware. If it plays the games you want at settings you're comfortable with then it's a gaming rig. For me, if the rig you made makes you happy then that's all that matters. 200, 500, 10,000....it doesn't matter as long as you're satisfied.
However, I would still wait until Azn posts as he is still the guru after all ! |

yeah I would. because if its months down the road, then it will probably be cheaper by then anyway, so I would suggest that. Also if its been more than a week or two before you buy each part, at least get with me or AZN before buying it just to make sure there isn't a better deal at that time. |

Well here's how I see it; the new FX-series of CPUs by AMD (codenamed Bulldozer) are of a new architecture from them and with new architecture, the 1st generations are usually going to get bad reviews. Now take the Phenom series for example. The 1st gen. Phenoms were a disaster and the Core 2 series by Intel completely demolished the 1st gen. Phenoms. AMD went back and revised their Phenom series to create the Phenom II line. The Phenom IIs were touted to be AMD's best line of CPUs for the price/performance. Now with Bulldozer, there have been much complaints about the FX-series not living up to the potential because the CPUs require a pretty big amount of power and for the price, the performance isn't right. HOWEVER, these are complaints made by enthusiasts that OC their hardware to a high level. If I were to choose a CPU in AMD's line, I'd either go with the Phenom II X4 965 (same price as the FX you chose) OR the Phenom II X6 1090T for a little bit more.) If it all came down to the FX or 965, I'd go with the 965 strictly because they've been proven to win gamers' hearts with their price per performance ratio. |

yea i forgot to edit ima decide to just get the phe x4 instead, i did look at the six but nah no need or want for so much yet but maybe later on who knows when i get the cpu i might just opt for that i had found some MB's i wanted too but i guess i forgot to bookmark em but i was gonna ask about dual screens do most MB's come with it? or is it one of those things i have to get separtely? |

Going dual screen is more of a graphics card thing. Nowadays, graphics cards can handle 2 monitors with ease since manufacturers are adding more and more ports. If you wanted to go beyond 2 screens then you'll have to look at either EyeFinity (ATi) or 3D Vision Surround (Nvidia). EyeFinity is a better choice because most (if not all) of ATi's cards have it built in whereas 3D Vision requires you SLI 2 cards to use more than 2 monitors. So to answer your question, you do NOT want to try multiple screens with a motherboard's onboard graphics. |
