I really do.

I tried logging into my steam account from my same computer I have always used and purchased from, and it put a 7 day hold on my account because its a "new computer OR a computer I haven't used in awhile."

How the hell is this a security threat!!?? It's the same damn computer and I used my unique login & password to login AND I email verified as well with a unique passcode they insta-emailed me.

God-forbid someone stop playing video games for a 30 day stretch.... shit, someone must have stolen his computer, hacked his IP Address, hacked his email address and done it without me noticing and reporting it. Good job! If you accomplish that, then you can have the money in my Steam Wallet.

I'm all in favor of reasonable security measures.....I waited the 30 days when I first set up my Steam account to make purchases. It was a pain in the ass, but whatever. This, however, is excessive. I guess I am REQUIRED to play video games on Steam every week or I'm punished.

Ok, rant over.

I put it my 8th ticket yesterday about my account getting hacked.

Something steam really needs to add is that the email account linked to steam should be able to cancel a certain IP from using that account. If this was put it, I would have my acc back and other people wouldn't lose theirs either

WTF? I've never even heard of a 7 day hold on an account because you haven't logged in in a while. That's absolutely ridiculous.

Users: Steam accounts are getting hacked too often, I wish valve would do something substantial to prevent it.

Users: Why can't I use my account in an extremely fishy way that will raise flags and then have to jump through hoops.

Let me give my POV as a former network security guy.

The first possibility is the issue. Many people will sell a computer without doing anything to the harddrive(Format). It is also very likely that your IP could have changed in that span of time as it is way beyond a standard DHCP lease. Many users also have active compromised email accounts. Since steam can be tied to credit cards they have to comply with strict security measures or face heavy fines. (Source: Me, when I used to run online e-stores for sports teams, and yes the measures are ANNOYING)

Also RTFM, aka the EULA.

Thanks for your insight Jero, but I still think Steam is overboard and ridiculous. None of my banks block me after I haven't logged in for awhile and they have much more sensitive information available than my Steam Wallet does.

My bank calls me and asks me if I made an unusual purchase in Wisconsin yesterday. It doesn't just shut me out of my account for a week.

Ya exactly.....nor do they shut me out with no way to let me back in until the week has elapsed.
