Post subject:  What's the quickest way to view/swap skins in game?
Ok, here is what I'm trying to do:

I want to be able to login to a server, purchase a weapon with a certain skin, look at it, fire it, run around with it, then access my inventory and swap it out to a different skin of the same weapon, etc.

I liked to log in to the AM death match server to do this because I can buy any weapon I want instantly with unlimited buy money. The problem is that I can only access my inventory after I die, and as soon as I die, I re-spawn, so there is no opportunity to access my inventory. I have to just continually disconnect and re-connect to the server.

If I login to a server with bots, I can access inventory when I die, but then I have to wait for the bots to die before I re-spawn, so this method is slow.

Any ideas on how I can do this more quickly and efficiently? Thanks

Wouldn't it be better to just "Inspect" the skins at the main page, and then equip the one you want?

Start a game offline without bots, put in sv_cheats 1, and then you can give yourself any weapon you want. Type "kill" in console to kill yourself so you can access your inventory.

Or with 'sv_cheats 1' on you can type in the console 'give_weapon ak47' or what ever you choose and it will give you the skin for that gun you have. No dying included. Look up csgo weapon names in console, should be too hard to find

That's what I said above with giving himself weapons. He has to die to switch what skin he has, because he has to be able to access his inventory, which he has to do dead.

Correct.

Thanks guys, this is what I was looking for.

My only question: once I kill myself, how long do I have to access my inventory before I re-spawn? There is more time I presume than in DM?

No. This method will give a good idea of what the skin looks like but is not identical to actually using/holding it in game. For example, I had a Boreal Forest P250 where most all of the darker green color (the color I like), was on the handle of the gun. It looked fine when "inspected" outside game, but in game my hand holding the gun covered most of the green. So I prefer to actually check them out in-game, see how they look when you reload, etc.

Another thing you can do is change the warmup time. I'm not sure what the command is but I think it is
Mp_warmuptime. Something like that

If you're in a casual server with bots, you can check your inventory and then take over a bot and buy the gun you just changed.

All you have to do is push escape before you respawn. Then you can take your time with going through your inventory. Then just kill yourself again to respawn with the gun you picked.

Yes I just tried this and this method works great! Thanks a bunch!

Also, the exact command is "give weapon_ak47" or whatever gun you want. I had the underscore in the wrong spot at first and couldn't get it to work.

Anyone know the command to give the M4A1-S? I have the silenced version in my load out, but when I use "give weapon_m4a1" it just gives me a generic non-silenced m4. If I have a non-silenced m4 skin loaded it will give me that, but won't give the silenced version when loaded. ??

Go to my beginners guide, in the weapon section, there is a list of all the console commands.
