Aight so I've looked into it and it's not incredibly hard to make a map in CSGO. It is however hard to make a good map. So I would like suggestions about what kind of things people want on a 1v1 map. this can be anything from specific elements you would like to see to you telling me your favourite 1v1 maps so I can incorporate ideas from them.

I'm not promising that what I make will be end up being worth putting on the server, but I figure as long as its so easy I might aswell try. A lot of people have been talking about "new 1v1 maps" lately and tbh Water, Plain2, Grass2, Must2 and all of the old ones are getting kinda stale

also if anyone has experience in map making then any pointers you have would be helpful

My favorite 1v1 map is insertion. The challenge of finding where the hell your opponent is on the map adds to the challenge of actually killing them.


Otherwise scenery-wise i like heights, and I like maps that have elevation changes without being a garage with a bunch of crates tossed in sporadically

You have to have clean angles, and plenty of angles. It shouldn't be just two angles (like water), or no angles (like cubes). Several spawns with several angles from each spawn, but you should be able to check them all independently. (must is a good example of this)

also if i have multiple spawn points for each team in each arena will that mess something up? like does it need to be 2 per arena?

No, it does not need two per arena, but I think it's best. Then it could be two different spawns per arena, which makes it harder to predict. (am_underground is an example of a map that has different spawns in each arena, but only one spawn in each)

Sounds great! Good luck. Just when you release a map please don't just do one of those make half a map and mirror flip the other half. It's easy and works but it's so boring and lame. You can keep the same layout but make it look different on opposite sides. It'll take few maps before youre familiar with Hammer.

You should include in the description how many arenas it has and that it works with splewis's plugin. These are really common search queries and would lead your map to get more hits.

I've added it to the server.

i need to upgrade the lighting. some of the boxes are completely black rn. i guess its different when you're hosting vs when its on a different server. but yeah i've got a few others planned. thinking about making a coliseum type thing with pillars and shit. is it ok if i use custom models or does it all have to be default csgo?

They can be custom, because they all get wrapped in the map file when it's put up on the workshop.

Nice one! I remeber going through the process of learning hammer and making some maps. It can be so frustrating some times but its always worth it at the end. If you want a challenge, look into custom textures and how to ship them with your map. You can make some awesome spaces
