Well folks, AMD has recently released their hexa-core CPUs and the pricings are just outstanding (in a good way I mean.) Here is a link to Newegg's webpage with the 2 Phenom II hexa-core CPUs.

The 6 core Phenom II is in direct competition against Intel's flagship: the Core i7 980X 6-core. The difference between these 2 hexa-core CPUs is that AMD's doesn't have what Intel calls hyper-threading (each core gets 2 threads for a total of 8 threads on the Core i7 920 and 12 threads on the 980X.) For applications that CPU hungry, the 980X has the edge over the 1090T Phenom II X6 since the 980X can handle more loads with the extra 6 threads. That's not to say the 1090T is a significantly lesser CPU than the 980X because the 980X is at a whopping $1,100 while the 1090T (black edition X6) is at a very nice $310. The price on the 1090T will seriously put a dent in Intel's sales. For now though, a quad-core system is more than enough. Even the Core i7 920 is more than enough for the average person and gamer. Multi-core CPUs are usually aimed at the crazy-ass gamers (they always want more power), heavy PhotoShop user, 3D renderer, massive video encoder, and the like. I really can't think of a game that FULLY utilizes all 4 cores even in a quad-core CPU. A hexa-core CPU would be a waste of money for a casual gamer unless he/she also does CPU intense work.
