What video game's soundtrack or song did you feel was brilliant? I am talking music that was composed for the game, not a famous pop song licensed by the developers(Tony Hawk, racing games, etc). Here's a few of my favourites from the most famous composers (Orchestrated).
No, but seriously, I'm not one of those people who gets in to vidya games aside from the gameplay. I don't really follow the stories, don't really notice the music...

BlueByte's "Extreme Assault" (circa 199-7?):
The above one is the end-game credits theme. NOTE that although you might find other "Extreme Assault OST" videos over at YouTube, they are NOT songs from the game (I really have NO idea what they are from)!
Here are short preview clips of the actual game soundtrack:
...with the one listed as "16. Credits" being a clip of the YouTube video linked above.
Anyhow, a longish short story:
Back in 1997 (?) when this game first hit the shelves, I didn't have a 'puter fast enough to run it. I finally got my hands on a demo from a "Computer Gaming World" magazine's CD-ROM, and was highly impressed with the demo game's MIDI soundtrack.
I've always had relatively decent MIDI hardware, ranging from various WaveBlasters (1), Proteus and Roland MIDI modules, as well as various AWE32/AWE64/SBlive(s) maxed out with onboard RAM and decent SoundFonts (digital sound banks) to load into them... so, the MIDI music sounded quite realistic (real-world instrument wise). Most of the soundtrack is big orchestrated music of a blockbuster movie genre, one of my favorite types
Anyways, I actually purchased the game JUST FOR THE SOUNDTRACK... as (at the time) I didn't even have a PC with enough power to run and play the game LOL! After buying the game, I then realized that CD not only included the MIDI soundtrack, but also Redbook Audio tracks on the CD recorded from the composer's (Chris Huelsbeck) MIDI equipment... quite nice stuff
I sequenced a MIDI version of the song "Downed Intro" (Downed_Intro.mp3), which is the main-menu music from the PC game "Counter-Strike: Condition Zero", and recorded an MP3 of the MIDI file using my MIDI hardware... and the result came out pretty nice sounding FYI, the entire original "Counter-Strike: Condition Zero" soundtrack was composed by Zak Belica, and is quite impressive sounding.
Yeah, I know... take an original MP3 from a game (that was originally composed and sequenced as a MIDI file), sequence a MIDI file of it, and then record the MIDI version to an MP3 file LOL!

+1 for Nobuo Uematsu's work to the Final Fantasy series. His songs truly helped create the perfect atmosphere for each of the Final Fantasy games that he worked on.

Anubis, That music actually sounds somewhat good until you have to choose a car. Right there it sounds like a broken record and the rest does too when you drive...lol

Yeah, the sound it makes when it skids is deafeningly bad.
