I kinda classify indie songs that almost purposefully sound, quality wise, bad to be "Dirty Indie".

This sort of style is really good if you just want happy music full of energy, as that is what I get out of it when listening to it; the feeling that these people did not care to be perfect, but played their heart out.

So I give you my top 20 "Dirty Indie" songs in no particular order:

YouTube Playlist

MaƱana - Desaparecidos
Constant Headache - Joyce Manor
Mr Understanding - Pete and the Pirates
Crawling After You - Bass Drum of Death
Touching War - Junior Astronomers
Dreaming - Seapony
Kids and a Mortgage - Dana Swimmer - Great local band, saw them live multiple times.
Lust For Life - Girls
Teenage Rhythm - GRMLN
Nothing is Wrong - Analog Rebellion
Settle Down - Junior Astronomers
Didn't You - Cloud Nothings
Fairground Girl - Dana Swimmer
Hey Cool Kid - Cloud Nothings
Everyone's Hip
Huddle Formation - The Go! Team
Mallrats (La La La) - The Orwells
Stay Useless - Cloud Nothings
Nodding Off - Wavves
The Horse - Beach Fossils

This music makes me anxious. What about this appeals to you?

Hmm, I interpret it as something along the lines of "Let's have a jam session and each song is for keepsies."

mewithoutyou- Wolf Am I! (and Shadow)

I'm curious what you would think of this song/band.

P.S i am confused as to what you mean by bad though. i listened to a fair bit of it and non of it was off beat or off key. and the mixing wasnt bad imo (although that is purely a matter of taste).

What I like about it is the fact that they didn't care to be perfect. They don't stop a recording when they screw up, they keep going, they just want to perform music. The shear fact that they aren't perfect implies a purely human characteristic to me. This music sounds a lot more like it is played live, which I like.

The "imperfections" are also, to me, a big sign that they aren't tied with a huge record label. Some are truly independent labels while others are tied to small labels.
