This is literally a copy of a post I made on reddit a couple months ago of my own littler tips and tricks.

Rifling

There are not that many different tactics when it comes to rifling. Here are the three main tactics:

Tap shooting
Burst fire
Spray

Tap shooting is the main goal for a rifleman going for headshots. If one lands a shot on the head with the AK, there will be no forgiveness. For an M4, tap firing is less important due to the M4A1-S and the M4A4 lack of a one-shot headshot. Either way, if one was to land a one tap on the head of an opponent with an M4, that individual will notice an immediate advantage and less of a need to focus on one taps on that specific player anymore and instead aim for the whole individual, improving the chances to get the kill.

Burst firing, approved by professional players for medium range, is a great way to ensure death of an opponent with a short burst of controlled spray. Both viable with the AK and the M4, burst firing has become a norm among many people due to the prevalent lack of consistent long range tap shots among many rifles.

Spraying is more defined towards the skilled individuals who can spray with an AK-47 or other more awkward weapons and still consistently hit an opponent at a decent range. A viable option for SMGs, spraying is helpful for those who want to be aggressive with an SMG while trying to spray into a crowd of terrorists. Dealing 60 damage to 3 people is much more helpful than you think.

Rifles

Spray for almost all weapons in the game.

This whole whole album is extremely useful to become familiar with and will definitely prove an advantage to anyone who chooses to. Even understanding the immediate recoil of the gun in the first 5-10 shots could be life-saver.

Known for its one tap headshots and its relatively low price, the AK-47 is a preferred weapon for the terrorists and is picked up by any counter-terrorist who comes across it. Despite its seemingly unforgivable spray pattern, one can easily defile an opponent by knowing the recoil of their weapon.

The M4A4, despite the lack of a one-tap headshot, is also a weapon of choice given its improved accuracy over the AK-47. However, its M4A1-S counterpart has an even more improved prediction of spray and burst firing combined with the sound of the silencer “ts ts ts ts” has earned its name as the “laser-beam” among many individuals, and for a good reason.

As a preferred choice of long range combat among almost every competitive rank in CS:GO, the AWP is known for its dreaded ‘surprise’ of a one shot kill while camping a corner and the rage-enducing ‘legging’ of opponents which often times prompts the AWPer to pull out a pistol to finish the individual off. Perfect for camping a corner and picking off any individual coming around it, the AWP is a weapon that, when used in certain areas, will completely butcher the thought for the terrorist to push that one position.

The auto-sniper, or the gun that makes individuals call you names, is a great way to prevent rushes of a site and even upon a site rush, can easily take out an entire team of terrorists. Not incredibly practical for the terrorists, CTs have used and almost abused this weapon.

Side note: The AUG and the SG is a viable weapon, if one can afford it. Their incredible accuracy at long range has proven it to have a strategic advantage over the M4s and the AK, but not without a repercussion. Any logical individual would take an AK + a smoke over an SG. Same goes for the AUG and then some. If one can afford it and is familiar with the weapon, there is not too many reasons to not go with the AUG and the SG. (Not to mention the SG has 100% armor penetration and a one shot headshot just like the AK)

Another thing: The desert eagle is known for being a “Hand Cannon” and a dreaded one shot headshot. Even in medium to close combat, landing only two shots on anyone would mean death to that individual. The recoil is also not the best, obviously. Probably one of the weirdest recoils of any gun in CS:GO, the deagle quickly falls behind the five-seven, p2000, USP-S, and almost all pistols in the recoil division, even when compared to the CZ which is not as sporadic and weird. This is why it is important to note that despite it being powerful per bullet, its relatively small magazine and its significant recoil combined with the slow recovery of a good and accurate shot, the deagle quickly falls to a pistol that is defined more towards the skilled individuals who can land the hand cannon headshot across the map, followed by an “OOOHHHHH” in chat and the opponent being pissed off partly due to the luck of the game and the skill of the shot.

Tactics / map knowledge

Practicing smokes, flashes, and nades is extremely useful for every map in competitive play. Map knowledge is a key part of this as knowing the map will help one predict enemy location, nade spots, and general strategy. For site takes and retakes, become familiar with common spots an enemy can be. If one can throw a nade to those spots that enemies are, that individual can deal a significant amount of damage. This is also extremely useful for any rush of any small area. If one knows where the terrorists are rushing, preventing the rush with nades is easily a great solution. For instance, calling a cat rush and having someone throw a grenade on cat and possibly even a double nade can deal significant damage and possibly even a death to the terrorists / counter-terrorists.

Understanding common plays for maps is a great way to prevent surprise attacks. Nothing spotted mid / apartments / A on Mirage? Check underpass, there may be a sneek play. If no one is watching middle on Dust II, (fix that first of all, always watch mid) then be prepared for a mid-to-B. Becoming familiar with common plays is a great way to prevent such strategy from working by predicting what the enemy will do due to what is going on at that moment. This is also map-dependent. One reason I find it quite annoying when someone plays competitive on a new map and says “Sorry, I am not familiar with this map” is because if you are not familiar with the map, you are by-far not familiar with the strategies among terrorists on this map.

Dear counter-terrorists, if you rush, I hate you. It may work and work well, but I hate it when I cannot prevent a freaking counter-terrorist rush. It is really annoying :P

Movement

There are a few tactics to benefit an individual in combat. One being A-D A-D. This tactic is based on the fact that after changing the direction a player is moving there is a point where the accuracy of the weapon is reset. This is called A-Ding in that upon reaching the stopping point and before the change of direction, there is a shot fired that has, if timed right, the same accuracy of standing still. This can be seen in any professional counter-strike pistol round and in almost every other situation where a pistol is being used.

Another common tactic, especially for pistol rounds, is control key usage. Ctrl is not only useful to land otherwise difficult jumps or to headglitch another spot, but also throw off an enemy in their aim. This can also be seen prominently in professional matches especially on pistol rounds and is proven to be an incredibly efficient way to make it more difficult for the enemy to land shots.

Sniper rifle peeking. I feel like this needs to be addressed because there are many different ways to go about it. If an individual pixel peeks a corner that an AWPer is also pixel peeking, there could be quite a number of issues for the individual which decides to peek the other. Due to the server delay, the advantage is almost always with the individual holding the corner. There is also another way to peek an AWP that I use that has proven, for me at least, as an advantage. If one is to consistently peek an AWPer, the AWPer can predict where to aim and when to shoot. I have noticed that if one has to peek a corner against an AWPer, inconsistent peeking or stepping out differently each time has been beneficial to me. Jumping and crouching is also terrifying to an AWPer because in its nature it is odd to do and proves that often times unpredictability is one of the best tactics. Another way to peek a corner is just to run out because if one keeps trying to peek a corner that individual is still betting his life away due to the distinct disadvantage he/she has. You probably can ignore this because peeking an AWPer is stupid, but helpful to know how to in-case.

Random

For the love of god and all that is holy, if you have a mic and don’t use it, you are asking for bad communication and effectively a bad match. If you have a mic and decide to use it only when individuals are complaining about no communication, you can go screw yourself. If you do not have a mic, develop a habit of communicating with your team anyway through team chat. “3 lower tuns one lit 60.” is much better than nothing. Develop this and learn to type it fast. “2 long A” “Lit 70 top mid” “3 B rushing” “Bomb cat” all of these can significantly help your teammates and prevent a round loss.

Please call a save round before the buy time begins. If you call for a save round after 10 seconds of the buy period, don’t complain when half of the team bought. It is literally stupid to call a save when the buying period is almost up.

You do NOT have to jump here! I cannot emphasize this enough!

Aim practice. You should realize that headshots do much more damage than normal shots, roughly 3-4 times greater damage depending on the gun.

Fiddle with your sensitivity. If you are new to the game and think your sensitivity is low, you should set your mouse to a DPI/in-game ratio to where moving your mouse 12 inches (30 centimeters) will produce a 360 degree turn. For me at least this is the prime of my sensitivity. Perfect to land difficult headshots and high enough to be able to flick around onto individuals. Not to mention that if an individual is surprised by something in-game that makes them jump in their seat, a lower sensitivity will make him/her recover from that scare much more easily. Just a side note :)

I know I have forgotten many things on this list because this was a “spur of the moment I have to tell everyone” sort of thing and an excuse to not study for my calculus final. I will try and add comments from individuals regarding little tips and add credit to them in the main post. Please correct me if you need. I do not want to feed false information to anyone but help everyone improve their competitive play.

TL:DR: Yes it is long. Focus on the “Random” section for little tips if you don’t want to read it all.

I love your mirage picture. I get stuck way too frequently behind people trying to jump there.

I'm going to read the rest of this more in depth later.
