I don't know how others feel about the arena server but I feel like it needs a refresher. Some new maps is a good start. Maybe start a poll and let people add arena maps that they want to see. Then we could vote 5 from those if there are too many. Or even vote to remove some if they are unpopular. Add a motd or ingame repeating chat message every few minutes about the voting. This might encourage consistent players to register and engage a little bit.

Just something to bring a some fresh air because playing on same maps for so long is not as fun as it used to be.

I'm happy to add any new maps you want. I think there's a thread somewhere, but you can just list them here. About every month or so I try to look for new maps but I've never found any, so if you find good ones that's even better!

Removed

I removed water, dust2, and must2 because we have updated versions of those on the server. I removed cubes, coop, and midnight because they're fairly unpopular and removing a few older maps will help it seem more "refreshed". I can add those three back in if requested.

i actually really like this change. new maps give me more reason to play on the server. rather than the random passing whims i have every few days

I played oranges earlier and it's really good.

Feel free to post others here you want to see. Generic feedback such as "make changes!" are harder for me to follow through with than specifics like "put this map on the server!"

I thought you meant we can't add maps that are not made within our community. I know am_<mapName> are arena style maps.

Also on the other note I've noticed that people who enjoy arena servers typically are divided into two groups. Those that like them because they can practice on real maps like am_dust2_cat and those that like other fun maps that not necessarily have realistic peaking angles. If we ever bring back the second arena server I think we should divide them into "fun" and "competitive" for like a week as an experiment to see if either will bring more than usual people.

It split the community so much. So many times it was like 3 in one and 3 in another. If it were 6 in one, more people would join, but might not join either if it's just 3 in either.

if there was a more efficient way to funnel people to one server or the other until one is full, without using heavy plugins, I would totally be for it. Also, we might anyway, because we kind of like your idea about the different maps. I personally didn't realize there were enough maps that it could be done when I first replied.

It is ridiculous and honestly kinda archaic when you think that a game in 2017 cannot connect through a DNS name (arena.absurdminds.net) rather than an IP. I cannot even begin to think why it hasn't been implemented yet. The amount of features added just through DNS management would be astounding. Having a round-ribbon or even a load distributor resolution would easily solve this right away.
