One of my students wants to find the cheapest thing he can that will still run CS:GO at 30 fps on low settings.

Also consider prebuilts. Building right now is just very costly and many prebuilts offer better price/performance.

Why's it so costly right now?

Alright. What should I be looking for in a prebuilts to make sure it hits those expectations?

If I remember correctly, a decent i3 has powerful enough integrated graphics to run a playable framerate. These are hit or miss some of the time though and often times should only be considered if there is a deal for one.

A ryzen build using the latest APUs is another option. Tom's Hardware did a good video on it:

This will provide adequate frames for now and the option to get a nicer GPU later down the line.

that is a second gen i3 I don't know how good that would be honestly. I was thinking that the integrated graphics got way better a few gens later.

That's beautiful. I'm not sure about the integrated graphics tho :s. Ryzen APU's would be way better than Intel graphics. But that PC with a craigslist video card sounds mints.

Any of the ones ending in G are the Ryzen APUs. They're also called Raven Ridge. I also threw together a parts list for an idea of the bare minimum Raven Ridge system:

The motherboard may need to be flashed with an older Ryzen chip in it. Kinda one of the big downsides of the APUs at the moment.

They suck.

The ryzen 2200G is only $99. Anybody with an i5 want to take out their video card for science? See if csgo runs playable.

And remember that these pc's are crap for upgrade ability. They'll all need a new motherboard at minimum

I'd personally avoid older AMD APUs, they're generally not that powerful and are only utilized when pared with good memory. I was thinking of prebuilts more along this line:

Every once in a while, if your timing is right, you can snag a good deal like that.

For that price, then it may be best to get a generic $150-$200 prebuilt and slap a used $200-150 graphics card in there. It's unfortunate though that with that price, you're basically scraping the bottom of the barrel for what can be considered a worthwhile machine.

I'm doubtful of the power of the integrated graphics in an i3, but any of those paired with a used GPU would be fine.

I strongly recommend the budget be budged just a little more. That way the there are many more possibilities, like getting new hardware instead of a dated system.

CSGO's minimum requirements:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 processor or better
CPU SPEED: Info
RAM: 2 GB
OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP
VIDEO CARD: Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 3.0
SOUND CARD: Yes
FREE DISK SPACE: 8 GB

Used is the bet.

https://knoxville.craigslist.org/sys/d/ ... 56453.html
$300
i7-4770 with 1 8gb and 2 4gb sticks, which is retarded but whatever. that's an easy fix.

https://knoxville.craigslist.org/sys/d/ ... 29265.html
$100
i3-4130 with 4gb

There are PLENTY of systems on craigslist in Tennessee that are better than what you're listing, for cheaper, and give plenty of room to buy a video card. $100 shit pc + $150-$200 video card is multitudes better than a $300 pc with no video card. Especially for a csgo machine.

You guys both have Intel i7's, see if CSGO can even get 30 FPS with an i7 with no video card. If not, then there is zero chance for an i3.
