This forum allows you to post images with the use of the IMG tag.

When you are posting images, PLEASE refrain from "inline linking".

An example of inline linking
I google "Anubis".
I find an imagine of Anubis that I like.
I click on that image and find the direct link to that image. For example, something like this:
Code:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6d/Anubis_standing.svg
I put that URL between image tags.
Code:
[img]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6d/Anubis_standing.svg[/img]
Inline linking is BAD. Especially because it leeches badwidth from the site the picture is hosted on.

Appropriate way to post pictures
You can either upload the picture as an attachment, or you can upload the picture to a site specifically designed to host images (they pay for the badwidth necessary to have people constantly viewing pictures, after all). Examples of such sites include imgur.com and imageshack.us.

In summary: Inline linking is actually a serious issue. I know it might seem harsh, but I will be reminding people to make sure they are uploading their pictures to places like imgur every time I see a picture hotlinked inappropriately.

Thank you for helping us stay respectable and respectful.

You don't have to save them to your computer.

Here is a walkthrough on how to use imgur.
  1. Find a picture you want to put in your post
  2. copy the URL, just like you would normally do
  3. type imgur.com into your URL bar
    Image
  4. Click on "Upload URLs"
    Image
  5. Paste the picture's URL (the one that you just copied) into the bar
  6. Click "Add"
  7. Click "Continue"
    Image
  8. imgur will upload your picture
  9. It will bring you to a page that looks something like this
    Image
  10. You can either choose the "direct link" and insert that into your own img tags, or you can use the one called "message boards", which already has img tags supplied.
    Image
  11. paste THIS URL into your post.
All in all, it takes about 30 seconds of extra work, but like I said, inline linking steals badwidth and is bad internet etiquette, so if you want to post pictures these are thirty necessary seconds.

Oh, I know, I'm not blaming you or anything. I'm just stressing the importance and trying to clarify that I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm just trying to be fair to the people who have these pictures in the first place.
