Later on when time permits, I will be demonstrating just how fast a solid state drive can boot into Windows 7. Now, why am I doing this you ask? Well last night, I ordered a solid state drive (Corsair Nova 32GB) from Newegg.com. I've read so many positive reviews about solid state drives that I just had to get one when the cash permitted. Well, the brilliant people over at Corsair recently released their 32GB Nova-series SSD and placed it under the $100 mark. Now, that's an absolute steal considering just how EXPENSIVE SSDs are currently. So, I'll be installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 while emptying out my 1TB Samsung and using it for data while I put all the useless cache files onto a 320GB Hitachi HDD. Hopefully I'll get the SSD on Friday since that'll give me the entire weekend to build everything up and then it gives me the rest of the time to finish up this review.

32gb?

Yup, 32GB SSD. Now you're probably thinking that I'm a bit crazy to spend $$$ on a 32GB drive but what I'm planning to do is only install Windows 7 onto it. 32GB is more than enough to install Windows 7 + MS Office and probably 1 game. Now, have you ever encountered a time when Windows wouldn't boot fast enough for your satisfaction? I have and it's very annoying. With the operating system installed on the SSD, boot times will be like night vs. day. I've witnessed the awesome-ness of an SSD's speed (the pastor at my church has a desktop in his office equipped with an SSD for Windows booting) and I was VERY impressed. So, for a limited time, Corsair is selling their 32GB Nova-series SSD for under the $100 price point.

Exactly. Since everything happens in Windows, why not have your system boot up the most important part? So, when I get time (which will probably on the weekends and hopefully my SSD comes in on Friday) I'll be taking down my system, installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 + MS Office + Firefox + 1 game (which will most likely be Starcraft 2). Songs, photos, movies, games etc. will all be on the hard drives while my cache files will be on the Hitachi. External will be holding backup images just in case.

I'm so psyched right now about having an SSD as a boot drive (yes, I'm psyched....I'm a nerd after all). No more waiting 1+ minute(s) for Windows to boot. It's gonna make my PC fly like a bat outta hell.

I want one badly, just don't have the extra cash to fork over on a luxury item like that. I'll probably get one eventually to have my OS and a few of my games, but that's down the road.

OH HELL YEAH! I got my SSD in today and have it installed right now. Man, Windows booting is a magical instant now!

I got Windows 7 Pro + MS Office 2007 installed on the SSD while everything else is on the 1TB Samsung. Windows 7 doesn't chug to get fully ready and now my PowerPoints, Word Documents, Excel spreadsheets are there at the ready in less than a second. SSDs are the FUTURE and are probably the best upgrade you can do for any computer.

Holy crap

Well I did a motherboard BIOS update (in the video, I was running a BIOS version from '09) and now it seems like the BIOS boots through even faster.

Here is the ATTO Benchmark I did after installing all the necessary stuff I wanted on my SSD. As you can see, the read speed is a tad bit faster than what Corsair advertised on Newegg and on their box (195 MB read/ 70 MB write.)

Well now that we've seen how much faster it is to boot into Windows 7 using an SSD, what about applications installed onto the SSD? In this video, I open 5 apps from Microsoft Office.
