For all you people boohoo-ing others for not knowing where sounds are coming from, I'd like to point out once and for all it's not my fault.

That's just sad...

I think everybody is boohooing. This thread is boohooing. Everybody knows its an issue that needs to be dealt with. It's like playing in a game with a cheater. Whining incessantly doesn't make him stop cheating. We're all playing in the same game together.

I've said this before, but there must be an issue that they can't overhaul the sound right now (or they are working on it). They changed the entire lower site on nuke to compensate for the poor sound. I can't imagine they would make a change if fixing sound was simple. We still have bot phantom footsteps. That has been in since BETA. Sound has at least been worked on quite a bit.

I would suggest that the people who continually criticize me and others in the game for not being able to tell where something is do not know it's an issue.

Also, this is interesting information even if you accept that there is a problem. This was an informative video.

I am highly questioning the settings this person used. I never had that issue ever (volume not changing for distance), if anything this makes it easier to hear people far away. The direction was also 100% perfect though, and if you hear people far away that well, you will turn towards them usually. Direction is really all you need once you have experience with the map, and general game sense. Surround sound makes sounds disappear completely or reverse direction, even if it adds depth.

I criticize people when I'm spectating them and they're looking in the wrong direction. If I hear the same sound as somebody I'm spectating, and I know where the sounds are coming from, it would make sense that they should too. Acknowledging that there is not differentiation in heights for sound, people should still be able to look in the right direction.

Exactly. Even if it the sound being played is at a constant volume based on distance, its still audible and in the right direction. Anubis, I thought we concluded that your issue was just volume? Like I said, I listen to CSGO at the point where AK and AWP shots are "too loud", almost the point that it hurts. I haven't criticized you since. Besides Azn, I haven't noticed anyone else missing sounds.

No, I definitely have instances where I have a hard time telling if somebody is at the right or left.

I don't know if the sound is poorly optimized for some hardware or what, but there is a definite problem.
