What would be a more steam friendly but also media oriented linux build for everyday pc use and gaming.

You should get the one called LTS. I think that's 14.

I personally only use Debian and Ubuntu. Both were server distros and the Debian install is so basic I had to install openSSH just to connect.

Yeah, I have a dual boot. I haven't played GO on linux in a couple of months, but I got around 90-100 fps in linux compared to 200-250 in Windows. I know they made some optimizations to it recently, though, so I'll try it out after I get back from the doctor and let you know how it is.

I'm actually getting almost identical FPS in Linux now as I do in Windows. The only thing is that models look a little weird and my mouse feels a little different, even though I've copied my configs over exactly.

Recommended Linux build for gaming: None.

I say that as somebody who is very well versed in Linux. Unless you want to have to do some troubleshooting, or "hacking" for every little thing, don't do it. As a 2nd OS, or in a vMachine fine. If you need to do real work and need to streamline processes for serving, okay. You will be very lucky if you even get ubuntu working perfectly without problems on a desktop machine. Drivers are a bitch, man pages are convoluted, and linux forums are filled with more arrogant versions of me.

Also goatmips that graph doesn't make a lick of sense. Fedora is an asshole to install compared to debian and Mint is the easiest installation I have ever seen in a linux distro. Also since Mint and Ubuntu is just a fancy package ontop of Debian, the docs and community points should be identical. Also customize? Its fucking Open source software, that uses other open source software. Customize should be full on all of them. Desktop is irrelevant because you can easily change the windows manager. Security, Performance and "Cutting Edge" shouldn't be there because you can tailored that on every Linux system.

The graph was more satire than an effort to display what each build is capable of.

Linux should (at the moment) never be used for major gaming. It currently doesn't have the support or the drivers to sustain it.

If you post any kind of help thread on a Linux forum, all you will get is people trying to one up each other rather than help the user in the simplest way possible. So it's not actually arrogant versions of Jeroh because he actually attempts to help people when they have a problem.
