This post is actually intended for Serial since it contains information on how to flash custom ROMs to the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S phone: Fascinate.

So, here is the link that provides a chockful of information regarding everything about the Fascinate:

Here's a VERY useful tutorial video on how to flash ROMs to an Android-enabled phone.

*Edit: I decided to change the tutorial because the one I've just linked is actually the method I have used to flash Paragon onto my phone. It is made into 3 videos so watch ALL 3 if you are wanting to learn how to flash custom ROMs.

And finally, here is a link that has most (if not all) of the Android-based custom ROMs available for each device.

I agree with you on that Bunny. At first, I put it here solely for Serial (since his phone is the Samsung Fascinate.) But after reading your reply and thinking about it, it would be helpful for some that are friends but aren't exactly members. I'll ask Anubis to move it to the public thread.

No problem. I do want to let everyone know that if you are seriously considering flashing to a custom ROM, that you know what the risks are because they can be very ugly. Worst case scenario: you HARD BRICK your phone and then you end up with a very fancy paperweight. If you can stomach through all this and are willing to do any ROM flashing, then I wish you good luck and remember to be patient.

so I heard around that even if you flash your rom back to factory, that your service provider will still be able to tell that you have done it. I wonder if this is true, cause then warranty is for sure voided.

Someone that I know has told me this but I cannot confirm this 100%. So far, the thing that I've noticed is that even if you flash to the stock ROM, remnants are left on your INTERNAL SD card (meaning that the internal data is still intact.) However, there's a program called Odin 1-click and that program has the ability to not only flash to stock, but it also has a Master Clear option (meaning that it'll wipe your internal SD card slate clean.) Only thing about this is that I've only confirmed with the Captivate and have no idea if there is one out for the Fascinate (I have read that there is an Odin for the Vibrant.)

If you're the type that relies on your warranty, then I highly forbid the use of custom ROMs. However, if you know what you're doing and you do know how to take care of your phone, then installing a custom ROM might be your answer to having a faster phone.
